What we do
Greenpeace Africa is a growing movement of people acting in protection of the environment. Our campaigns use peaceful, creative confrontation to expose environmental injustices in Africa and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future. Our latest victories
- The Makhanda High Court revoked Shell's exploration rights to do seismic blasting off the Wild Coast of South Africa! This is a massive victory for local communities and would not have been possible without the support of our partners. It's proof that people's lives and precious marine ecosystems are valuable and worthy of protection from climate criminals.
- In April 2020, we partnered with local communities and stopped 52 foreign industrial fishing vessels from obtaining new fishing licenses in Senegal which if granted would have meant further exploited and lifeless oceans for Africans.
- In August 2020, the government of Cameroon wanted to open a vast stretch of Ebo Forest, the home of the Banen people and habitat of many critically endangered species to loggers. After six months of campaigning with partners, the logging was suspended. Leaving this pristine habitat intact. We continue the fight for the permanent protection of these forests.
- August 2020, the American Chemistry Council tried to bully Kenya into easing its plastic bans so it could ship plastic waste to 27 African countries. We mobilised 20,000 people across the continent to stop the petrochemical giant's plan to turn Africa into its dumpster.
